The Alajuela School of Music

oaThe Alajuela School of Music (E.M.A.) opened its doors on month of April, 2008 with a population of 140 children and youths aged between seven and eighteen. Its main goal is the contribution towards a better quality of life of socially vulnerable children, instilling values, through the practice of music by its participants, in such a way that they may become agents of change for their families and their community. This goal will be reached by offering high quality musical training, which includes the teaching of musical theory, the learning of a musical instrument and participation on workshops and musical bands.

In 2009, two hundred new children and youths will take part in this program. The whole student population of E.M.A. will receive all teaching material completely free of charge and will be given a musical instrument on loan. They will also not be required to pay registration fees and may opt for a scholarship that will exonerate them from the payment of the monthly tuition of 10,000 colones (aprox. $18.00 US.) To qualify for this scholarship, a form must be requested on enrollment day, bringing the needed requirements one week later.
